El Conde Street

El Conde Street

The first commercial street in the New World remains the most popular pedestrian shopping area of the Dominican Republic. Stretching over 10 blocks, cutting through the Colonial City like its main organ, this cobblestoned road is lined with restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, and grocery stores, but also street side art vendors displaying their colorful paintings, and mobile vendors pushing ice cream carts. Along the way are historic sights, starting at Calle El Conde’s entrance at Parque Independencia, onto the Parque Colón and first cathedral, to its edge at Calle Las Damas.
